Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuiyan admitted that they are underdogs but want to become champions of the SAFF Championship 2023, scheduled to begin in Bengaluru, India later this month.
“We are underdogs in the tournament. We are not favorites. This is very positive for us. The other teams may think we are not strong. But we have belief that we are a good team,” Jamal told reporters Friday.
The midfielder spoke at a press conference at Bangladesh Football Federation House Friday afternoon after the 23-man squad for SAFF Championship was announced.
“We want good results. The ultimate goal is to win the SAFF trophy. We can do this. We can reach the final but first, we want to make it to the semi-finals. We have players who can win us the matches,” said Jamal.
Bangladesh will kick off their SAFF Championship campaign against Lebanon on June 22 before facing Maldives three days later.
